Github represents a very prominent platform to host software projects using the versioning system GIT.

In order to get started with your own project you only need to follow a couple of easy steps:

  1. Create a github account if you don’t already have one
  2. Create a project on github
  3. Create a SSH keypair unless you you don’t already have one
    • ssh-keygen -t rsa -C “Your Name”
    • be sure to save these keys in .ssh folder inside your home directory (default)
    • add the public key (id_rsa.pub) to your github account
  4. Setup your git project
    • mkdir yourGitProject
    • cd yourGitProject
    • git config –global user.name “Your Name”
    • git config –global user.email your@email.com
    • git init
    • touch README
    • git add README
    • git commit -a -m “initial commit”
    • git remote add origin git@github.com:yourUsername/yourGitProject.git
    • git push -u origin master
